Location: Fourdon, Aberdeenshire
Event: 3 June 2012
Report: Snowdon Sports
Evergreen Carlos Riise turned on the power in the closing 12 miles to win Granite City RT’s Fitnut Trophy 50-mile time trial on a cold and windy morning in north-east Scotland.
Riise (Shetland Wheelers) and Steve Nutley (Sandy Wallace Cycles) were level pegging going into the final northerly headwind stretch of the Fourdon course, but the 47-year-old islander showed his strength to open up a gap of nearly two minutes by the finish to take the honours in 1-53-35.
Nutley had the consolation of securing the Scottish veterans title on age-related standard times with a cushion of 1-44 over his younger rival Riise.
Result:
1 Carlos Riise (Shetland Wheelers) 1-53-35
2 Steve Nutley (Sandy Wallace Cycles) 1-55-27
3 Graeme Hay (Stirling BC) 1-57-51
4 Keith Robertson (Granite City RT) 1-58-17
5 Graeme Cockburn (Glasgow Wheelers) 1-59-27
6 Veli Raikkonen (Granite City RT) 1-59-57
7 Mike Spalding (Deeside Thistle CC) 2-00-12
8 Norman Skene (Granite City RT) 2-02-37
Scottish Veterans TTA Championship:
1 Nutley +26-46
2 Riise +25-02
3 Derek Stewart (Deeside Thistle CC) +24-46
