Event: 10 May 2014
Just Events have launched a fantastic new sportive, the Taunton Flyer, ready for your 2014 season. The inaugural event will take place on Saturday, May 10.
Departing from Taunton Racecourse, the well signed and marshalled 'Dakota' (100 km) route will guide you south for a gentle spin into Corfe before testing your legs on a 1000 ft climb up into the Blackdown Hills. From here you will descend through the stunning Culm Valley and on to a well stocked feed station at Broadclyst. Suitably refreshed, your return journey takes you over to Exeter Airport and then back past the historic wartime airfields of RAF Dunkerswell, RAF Upottery, and RAF Culmhead. This is a great early season sportive that uses beautiful open flat roads combined with a couple of good testing climbs.
For those looking for something a little easier, there is a shorter (54 km) 'Spitfire' route. This follows the longer 'Dakota' (100 km) route out to Hemyock, then cuts over to Dunkerswell airfield to rejoin the 'Dakota' route for the return back to Taunton Racecourse.
This sportive will use electronic chip timing and has Gold, Silver and Bronze medal standards for all age and gender categories. Commemorative medals will be awarded to all finishers.
The Taunton Flyer also includes a special 'VINTAGE CLASS' for anyone who would like to participate using a vintage bicycle. There will be some great prizes to be won for those who enter into the theme of this event by participating with wartime period bicycles and attire (1939-1945).
The official charity partner of the Taunton Flyer Sportive is SSAFA, who have been supporting the British Armed Forces and their families since 1885. Please consider fundraising through this event to show your support.
On-line entry is now open but places are limited. To reserve your place or get further information please visit www.TauntonFlyer.com
