John Paul leads GB sprint challenge at Bremen Six Day

Great Britain’s John Paul lies second overall in the sprinters competition after the first day of the Bremen Six Day meeting in Germany, which saw a trio of GB’s up-and-coming sprinters; John Paul, Lewis Oliva and Kian Emadi pitched against their German counterparts Philipp Thiele, Max Niederlag and Sebastian Dohrer.

Paul was second in sprint qualifying which involved a flying lap of Bremen’s tight 166 metre track, the young Scot posting a time of 9.373 seconds, behind Phillip Thiele who clocked 9.281. Great Britain’s Lewis Oliva was just two hundredths behind Paul at 9.393.

Onto the match sprints and Kian Emadi, who qualified last with a 9.589, finished 2nd in a three-man heat, won by Sebastian Dohrer.

John Paul won the final heat, leading it out and holding off Thiele for the win, after a 20 second three man trackstand. Oliva took third.

Great Britain’s Kian Emadi was back on track in winning form in the Keirin, pipping Germany’s Max Niederlag to the win. However the German team hit back to win the team sprint.

The sprinters will be back on track tomorrow, which will also see endurance riders Jon Dibben and Sam Lowe competing in the UIV Cup.
