It was a cold and windy evening, but there was some good fast racing especially in the senior A League at the latest Welwyn Track League meeting at Gosling Sports Park.
Youth Numbers were high despite many riders travelling early the following morning to the Youth Omnium series at Brighton and Bournmouth.
Dave Legrys used his vast experience to win the first senior B group 10 lap with a well-timed sprint and edge out Brian Evans. The B group Points saw no less than 16 riders score points in the 10 lap event with Gareth Richards winning with just 8 points to his name.
The senior A group was a battle between McClelland, Broadwith, Fry and Woolf. But late arrival Andy Hastings triumphed in a rapid 10-mile race to close the evening. The leading group was reduced to 14 by half distance and the numbers dwindled lap by lap with eight there as the bell rang.
Joe Fry put in a blistering attack but was hauled in by Andy Hastings and John McClelland who took second place by inches in the last few metres.
In the youth categories Jack Plumley dominated the A category and Will Raymond the BC group. The large group of CDE riders saw some spirited riding in the handicap events with Fraser Elsworth defeating the handicapper with two wins. In the closing four-lap event 10 riders came into the home straight with Owen Williams taking the honours from Joe Kiely and Sam Asker.
