Everyone at British Cycling was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Kit Bohin.
Kit was a cherished member of the cycling community, whose unwavering support, kindness, and guidance shaped the lives of countless riders over the decades. Together with her late husband, Leo, Kit created a foundation of generosity and encouragement that left an indelible mark on the sport of cycling.
Kit and Leo Bohin were childhood sweethearts who shared an extraordinary 72 years of marriage, their love symbolised by a commemorative marriage certificate from the Pope that proudly adorned their home.
For many, Kit and Leo’s military-style Land Rover, its diesel aroma and bumpy seats, was as much a symbol of adventure as the bicycles it carried. It was in the Land Rover that Kit and Leo transported young riders to races, from the Western Division Schoolboy Championships at Whitchurch Airfield, to the Wessex Division Championships at Lee-on-Solent. They made every journey an adventure, with Kit offering warmth and reassurance as riders tackled the trials of racing and competition.
From the 1960s to the 1990s, Kit and Leo’s home became a haven for Bristol Road Club riders and many others in the cycling community. Whether cheering from the sidelines in all weathers, organising logistics, or simply providing a comforting presence, Kit’s devotion to the sport and its people was boundless.
Her influence reached far beyond the Bristol Road Club. Over 60 years, Kit and Leo were integral to the development of the sport in the Western Division and beyond, guiding countless young riders with patience and care. Their legacy is one of selflessness, love for cycling, and a commitment to fostering the talents of others.
Kit will be deeply missed, but her impact will endure in the memories of those she helped, the values she instilled, and the community she shaped.
It is hoped that a strong representation from the clubs and cyclists who benefited from Kit and Leo’s unwavering support will attend to pay their respects and honour her legacy.
Kit’s funeral will take place on Wednesday 12 February at 11am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Grange Court Road, Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol BS9 4DR, before the family will gather at 12 noon at Canford Crematorium, Canford Ln, Westbury on Trym, Bristol BS9 3PQ.
After, Kit’s final gathering will take place at Avonmouth Rugby Club, Barracks Lane, Shirehampton, BS11 9NG.
