British Cycling’s Limitless programme has been shortlisted for the ‘Cycling for All’ award at the UCI Cycling for All & Sustainability Awards which will take place in June in Copenhagen, Denmark.
– supported by Shell UK - is British Cycling’s disability-inclusive cycling programme which provides cycling opportunities for disabled people, regardless of age, impairment and ability.
At the end of its second year, Limitless has engaged with over 4000 disabled people – the original overall engagement target is 5000 people across four years.
At the end of February this year, there were 234 Limitless Champion Clubs and 20 Limitless Focus Clubs operating across the country, which continues to rise since, with leading examples in locations across the UK, from Cornwall, Yorkshire, Kent, Scotland and Wales, showing the wide impact of the programme since its launch.
Through the Shell UK partnership which funds the disability sport programme – which is unique in the UK sporting landscape - Limitless clubs can access funding to develop opportunities tailored for disabled riders, such as procuring essential equipment, training and CPD, enhancing facilities, to deliver disability inclusive opportunities which showcase cycling is truly for all.
Strategic Lead for Disability and Inclusion, Lyndsey Hollands said:
“This recognition is another key milestone for the programme. It is testament to all the hard work and dedication of the clubs, volunteers and riders who have provided opportunities to thousands of disabled people to access cycling through the programme.
“Limitless continues to have huge social impact to all those who we have engaged with it, whether that has been from connecting communities, improving health and well-being, or developing people’s skills so they benefit on and off a bike. We are incredibly proud of the Limitless programme and the impact it continues to have throughout our cycling communities, who really feel that cycling is where they can thrive.”
