Why should I try one?
Custom workouts are great on Zwift, whether you pick one from the extensive selection available on Zwift, are following one of our Digital Training Plans and have synched your Zwift and TrainingPeaks accounts or have built your own. However, with you avatar ploughing its own workout furrow, much of the fun, community spirit and interactivity of Zwift can be lost.
Group workouts give you the opportunity to reap the benefits of structured workouts but with an added social component. You’ll be in a bunch of like-minded riders with a shared purpose and can spur each other on with private group chats.
How do they work?
A “virtual rubber band” holds the group together and, no-matter what wattage you’re putting out, you’ll stick with the group. That means, whether you’re an A or D category rider, producing 6 or 1.5 w/kg, you’ll stay as a pack. How hard you’re working will be determined by the workout structure and your FTP. It’s important that your FTP value is accurate or you might find the workout too hard or too easy. Group workouts are categorised as “E”, meaning for everyone.
You can see what’s coming up in the workout in the upper left hand portion of the screen.
If you do need to finish early or want to leave the group and finish the workout on your own, just stop pedalling, the rubber band will snap and then you can just Ride On solo or hit the shower.
How to I find out about them?
You can find and join Group Workouts on the Events Page, on the Companion App and in-game.
