This logbook will enable you to keep a record of your mountain bike rides as a form of evidence that you are sufficiently prepared to lead groups in a variety of terrain and weather conditions.
It aids tutors and assessors understanding of your physical fitness, navigational, leading and outdoor awareness experience. The logbook is designed for use by British Cycling Mountain Bike Leaders (Level 2, Level 3 and Night Leader award holders).
You should keep this up to date as it will be reviewed several times in your career as a Mountain Bike Leader:
- prior to any mountain bike leadership training
- prior to any mountain bike leadership assessment
- as ongoing history to ensure the currency of your award and for your continuous professional development.

The logbook is designed to be used with the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you use it on other platforms, particularly any website derivatives, the fillable sections are unlikely to work properly. Adobe Acrobat Reader can be downloaded for free here where you are using a computer or as an app when on a smartphone or tablet.
Once you’ve downloaded a copy of the logbook, you can start filling it in in preparation for your mountain bike leadership training course. You should take a copy to your Training course to help you explain your experience to your tutor, it is likely that they will take a look at it during the learner review towards the end of the course, at which time they’ll help you to write a plan to aid your preparation for assessment.
Following your training course, you can add information about the rides that you undertake to practice skills and techniques relevant to your assessment. Your tutor will let you know when to submit this to them and will offer you feedback on your experience during the assessment.
